Arrow Finishing screws and butt joint on baseboard?

Hi,

It's my first time installing baseboard, and I have a couple of questions:

1) Should I nail it to the stud or can I use finishing screws ? I'm worried about marring the wood in case of hammer malfunction. The baseboard is painted, so once the holes are filled up it shouldn't be a problem..

2) Are butt joints okay ? If I can save myself the trouble of mittering the corners, the sooner I can return the room to my better half... Or will it look so ugly I'll wish I had taken the trouble ?

Thanks !

Your call. Whatever makes you comfortable.

It is hard to make butt joints look nice. That is why miter joints are used. It takes no longer to cut a miter joint than a butt joint.

Hope this helps.
