Wood Faux Beam

Hi... I have these wood faux beams (meaning they are wood, but not solid, just a "case") that I would like to refinish in some matter that would look decent. Stripping and staining just doesn't appeal, but I am open to any ideas. They are on the dark side, sort of like a walnut color. I would prefer to lighten them up since my goal in this room is to brighten the whole room. I can't jast take them down because they run the length of the room over a seam created by a faux cathedral ceiling. Also, the ceiling fan and chandeliere(?) hang from the beam

I appreciate and say thanks ahead of time for any and all resposnses....

Cover with a couple coats of primer/sealer like Zinnser and paint them the same color as the ceiling or a shade or two darker than the ceiling if you wish to accent them. You will tend to find that this will not only lighten and brighten the room but increase visual height.
