Need to fix a gap!

When my house was built, my builder left a 3/8 gap on most of my door jams and casings..from the floor. The flooring is hardwood and the initial trim is paint grade trim that is white.

I am considering repairing this myself. What would be the best way to repair this so as to hide the seam of joining the two pieces of wood together?

Its being paint grade would enable you to get a piece of the one piece door casing and some molding and cut a sliver off and attach it to the bottom of the existing work. Some creative work with some glue, spackling compound, and paint should solve the problem.
