Can I attach crown moulding with 1" 18g brads?

I'm planning to install some crown moulding this weekend. It will be installed against 1/2" drywall. I have a compressor and 18g brad nailer and 1" brads that I was planning on using, but the more I'm reading, it looks like a 16g finish nailer is the preferred method, along with 2" nails.

What does everyone think of my plan to install with 1" 18g brads? Will it work? Should I change to 2" 16g nails?

Thanks,
K

a 1" nail will hold absolutely nothing since it will hardly make it through the drywall. 2" nails would be the minimum length I'd suggest. 18 ga 2" nails would work, but if your crown is wide and/or heavy, 15ga (angled finish nailer) or 16ga nails (straight finish nailer) would be better. Be sure you locate and hit the studs.
