How to remove existing 2x6 window stool?

I am looking to add some trim to my windows and want to install side/top casings and a new stool with an apron. But in order to do this, do I need to remove the existing 2x6 stool that sits out from the window, and if so how without hurting the window or the surrounding drywall?

You are working on the inside, right? If so, you don't have to remove the tail of the outside sill. The stool is separate from the outside drip molding. Generally the stool is held in with vertically installed finish nails. You may be able to see where they are through the finish. You will have to remove the side molding and the top and side casing in order for it to come out, though, since the stile casing sits on the stool, and the header sits on the stiles. Sort of like dominoes.
