caulk or spackle for baseboard nail holes

which do i use to cover nail holes and fill slight gaps in my miters and baseboard/plinth joints? My baseboards and frames are painted.

Caulking is for joints, spackle is for minor repairs. Use painter's putty to fill the nail holes.
Caulking will shrink a little and won't allow you to make the nail holes disappear and spackling would need to be primed.
