How to cover Plastic Composite Siding Panel?

Our bathroom walls are covered with Plastic Composite Siding Panel. I want to update the look of our bathroom with drywall (green board, of course), but really don't want to have to rip out all of the siding panels. Can we just drywall right over the current panels, or is it absolutely necessary to rip out the old paneling first? We are beginning DIYers, so this is something new to us. Below is a link with information about the paneling. Thanks!

The panels are only .090 thick so you could possibly drywall directly right over them without consequences. Now, what is UNDER the panels.....more sheetrock? If so, You will be building out your wall too much considering all your existing trim, door jambs, etc. Would it be possible for you to post your project room so we can see what you see? It may be we will have a plan B for you that may work as well. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html
