Cedar Siding

The cedar siding on my south and east walls is in bad shape and needs replacing. The house is located near the Gulf of Mexico, so it takes a beating from the wind and salt water mist.

Should the just replace the siding on the south and east walls or redo the whole house?

What would be the approximate cost per square foot (or whatever measure is used for siding)?

Are there any special nail-type (ie galvanized vs stainless steel) requirements due the nearness to the ocean?

Is there anything else I should consider?

Thank you.

My only comment on this is to definitely use stainless steel nails, unless you want black streaks down the new cedar in six months.
