We have a bedroom in our 100 year old house that needs help. The old plaster walls and celing are covered by layers of paint and wallpaper with the top layer being an ugly, textured paint that was poorly done to begin with and is now badly cracked and chipped. I've tried scraping, but the plaster is in bad shape. I'm thinking that the best solution for a desperately needed facelift that fits within our budget is paneling. I'm partial to the beadboard style. Any thoughts on whether this will work? Or any other suggestions? This room really needs help and we don't have the money to tear down walls.

Try to locate a person who still does plaster and see if they can patch and plaster the entire room for you.

Other wise, I would recommend tearing all the plaster off the wall and replaceing with sheetrock.
