I'll be cutting a section of privacy fencing in half to make a double gate. Pretty straight forward? Or are there any little tricks that might help?

Sounds fairly straight-forward. It depends on the fencing material, weight, and the span between posts. If your lucky, you can affix vertical pressure treated 2 x 4's on the fence flush with the posts and put heavy duty hinges on before you cut the fence in half. This way you won't have to worry about aligning and holding up the fence while you're installing hinges. Hope this helps some.
