Cut off saw for trim

has anyone used a small 6in cut off saw to cut their small trim pieces and quarter round?

You mean a circular saw? No!

That's what a miter saw is best at doing.

I've seen some 6" miter saws but never used one. They aren't useful for much other than small trim. As noted above it would be next to impossible to get a good miter cut with a skill saw.

btw - welcome to the forums Amanda!

Build a jig to guide the skilsaw. Have seen this done many times when cutting vinyl siding. A smaller version will work fine with reasonably close tolerances.

An easier option is rent a mitre saw.
