Question Wood Paneling Installation Help

I'm new to any home improvements, but feel I am competant enough, if with good directions and solid advice, that I can do a good job.

I was considering installing paneling on the lower-half of my wall in my basement to give it the "pub" feel. I know sheets run 8x4, so I was thinking I could just cut em in half and get 2 sections per sheet. I then want to put a chair moulding at the top (4 feet from the floor), and crown moulding at the ceiling.

My first question is: Would it look tacky being 4 feet up from the floor, and if not, how would I nail the crair moulding to cover up any imperfections in my cutting of the paneling.

All replies appreciated.

The normal height for chair rail is 32". That means you get 3 pieces from a 8 ft piece of paneling. Look around in your area for a chair rail that has a rabbet cut on the bottom that would go over the top of the paneling, or get what they call ply cap.
