Door Jam Moulding
I recently framed 2 walls - One with 2 x 4's, the other with 2 x 6's. I wish to place Bifold doors on each wall. The Bifold doors do not come "prehung" with a Jam. I was able to find Jam Moulding specifically for the purpose of framing a door for the 2 x 4 wall - the dimension of the moulding is 4 9/16 inches wide - sized to accomodate 1/2 inch sheet rock on each side. This worked perfectly. The problem is I was not able to find Jam moulding designed to accomodate the 2 x 6 wall. It would have to be approximately 6 1/2 inches wide if it was to be able to cover the 2 x 6's and leave about 1/2 inch on each side to accomodate sheetrock. I only checked Home Depot. Do they make such type of Jam moulding? I plan to check lumbar yards. If not I'll have to cut some larger wood to size but it would make life easier if I didn't have too. Thanks.

I tried numerous lumber yards with no luck. Would have to be special ordered. I'll probably just make it myself.

MDF is an acronym for Medium Density Fibre board. It's used in a lot of applications to machine custom mouldings and fittings that are to be painted. It comes in various thicknesses in a 4' X 8' sheet
Another possibility (albeit expensive) would be 5/4 board (a true 1 inch thick) that can be ripped to the proper width.
As Dave mentioned, making your own is not that difficult, and will be a lot less expensive than having them made.

I made my own using several pieces of white pine. It went well & once painted and covered with molding it will work fine. Thanks for all the feedback.

Bifold doors!!
Bifold doors only require a flat jam so it would be much more cost effective to make your own. Many independant yards offer a ripping service for a dollar or two........
