removing latex from paneling

Someone tried to paint the paneling (the thin type) in a modular we are fixing. They slapped on a thin coat in an area approx. 2ft.
I can scratch it off with my fingernail but don't want to sand it for fear of messing up the original finish on the paneling.
Any ideas on a mild solvent I could use to remove it?

I think it may be easier, faster maybe even cheaper than what the paint removal is going to cost you in manpower. to replace the old paneling with new.
Otherwise try a nylon sponge like the wifes got in the kitchen and run with it soap and water, vinager, maybe some mild abrasives or if you good with a razor, good luck
