4 x 4 actual dimensions

Ok I searched the forum and found that 2xbys are usually close to .5 inches shrot i.e. 2x4 close to 1.5x3.5. Is this also true for squere lumber dimensions? i.e. 4x4 would be close to 3.5x3.5 and 6x6 close to 5.5x5.5? Thank you

Yep.
"They don't make 'em like they used to", do they fred?
LOL
And on top of that, much of the lumber that you get today is from so-called "super trees" that grow twice as fast as a natural stand, which means that the lumber isn't nearly as strong, whatever the dimension.
