96 grand prix electrical problem

Have a 96 grand prix with electrical problem. Battery light came on and the parts shop determined I needed a new alternator. I replaced the alternator and the light went off, but then discovered the battery was dead.
I have now replaced the battery only to find something is draining this battery as well.
What other failures could cause this problem? I really don't want to take the car to the shop if I can avoid it.

Hook up a test light or ammeter in line to the cable. The light should glow (on a test light).

Pull each fuse out one by one. The one that really dims the light is the problem circuit. You could also have a defective rebuilt alternator. That's common with non-ACDelco rebuilt alternators.
