92 Crown Victoria Evaporator

We suspect a leak in the evaporator, since it has a leak and nothing can be found elsewhere. R-12. It has had the yellow stuff put in that is detected with the black (?) light. We have to replace the compressor (no pressure change at all even though it is operating--clutch engages, shaft turns), and were considering changing out the evap as well as the accumulator, etc. Question: What has to be done to get the evap out? Does it come out under the dash or under the hood. It looks like it sticks out into engine compartment, but engine is in way of getting it out. Still advisable to stay with R12? thanks for the help.

Check the autolibrary.org link I have below to see if they have the R&R procedure.

Yes, R12 is the way to go.
