1996 Neon poor gas mileage after tuneup... dirty oil after change.

1996 Plymouth Neon, Expresso. 90,000 miles

Series of events:

1. Check engine light on. Code said oxygen sensor. I have put in a new sensor and went to Power Zone to have the code removed by their scanner. The light kept coming back on. Now I have noticed the light is off...for good..can't even get codes.

2. Only getting about between 12-16 miles per gallon. At about 49 mph car hesitates. Eventually kicks into passing gear..black carbon coming from exhaust...Had a tuneup..still happening.

3. After recent oil change I checked the oil a few days later. The oil is black.

Any tips would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Sounds like a faulty MAP sensor or a cracked vacuum line going to it. Have the sensor and line checked.
