1990 Dodge Caravan - a/c

Hi Joe, 3.0 L, auto., A/c runs barely cool at all operating temps. It is an old R-12 system, and the compressor is making like trying to seize-up noises. Will adding R-12 lubricant and freon help or am I dealing with a toasted compressor? Second question, is there a recommended amount of R-12 lubricant to put in? It sound dumb, but I checked your "Basics" and the Chilton's, and Haynes, and no answers there. Thanks and have a good day.

I do not suggest DIY repair on A/C systems without the right tools......you can cause personal injury or possibly damage the system...seek professional service if you don't have the tools, techniques and service literature to service it.

Depending on what is wrong with the system, that will determine to stay R12 or 134A.
