Question Automotive - 1988 Ford Aerostar

I have a 1988 Ford Aerostar mini-van that I've kept in good condition and maintenance. The only problem that I'm having lately is that the ckeck engine engine light comes on and the engine bucks. Especially in the morning when I first start out. It gets better as the engine warms up but I still see the check engine light go on periodically and I can feel a slight jerk.

I've replaced the oxygen sensor near the catalytic converter and thought that would solve it. It didn't. The vehicle has over 100K miles. But otherwise runs great.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Get the codes

The Electronic Control Module (engine control computer) stores a trouble code whenever the check engine light comes on. The code won't necessarily lead you right to the problem, but it will give you a good starting point.

You can retrieve the codes yourself with a test light and a jumper wire, or you can buy a $25-$30 code reader from the parts store.

See the links below for code retrieval info. Get the codes & post them here & we'll help you find the problem.

Thanks for the reply Knuckles. I'll work on it this weekend and get back to you regarding the error codes.
