battery wont charge 95 bretta

95 chevy bretta Z26
put brand new battery in on 8-9-02 had alternator tested said its good but has bad wire to it did the old test of removing the positive battery cable while car was running and car died any suggestions ? wires and connections look okay to alternator.

That's not a very good test ... can fry the diodes in your alternator. If your alternator has wiring problems that needs to be addressed. These alternators can show proper voltage but be pushing no amps. Check it with an amp meter on the largest wire from your alternator.
Also, just because battery is new doesn't mean it's good. Have your local parts store or shop load test it for you.

I agree with Dan.

Check your alternator's output with a digital meter as shown in my post "The Basics" below.

Tell the guy that removed the cable to "test" if the alternator is good that doing this is NOT a valid test and can cause damage as Dan stated.

Search this Thread
