1997 Ford Ranger Hesitates

Our Ford Ranger (4 cyl, automatic, 114K miles, 1997) hesitates when starting to "go" from a complete stop. Doesn't hesitate any other time and except for the hesitation it runs great! Dealer diagnostics doesn't show any problems. Dealership said they had to tear down the engine (?) to try and locate the problem! Seems drastic to me since engine runs great other than hesitation. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Find another Ford dealer as this one is stupid. You might ask them what they will find by tearing down the engine...if you got their description right.

Tell them to check ignition, fuel pressure and compression, the three basic things an engine needs. Start there .
