85 Blazer real hot tranny

I have an '85 Blazer S10 Tahoe 4x4, 16,000KM on rebuild, V6, 2.8L., 4spd Auto. After driving for 1/2 hour or longer, I notice that the 4WD selector's shaft ( inside the vehicle) starts to warm up. After longer driving times, this becomes extremeley hot - so much that I cannot grasp the shaft of the selector due to the extreme heat. The tranny usually has a slight leak however, after it gets very hot ( especially after using the vehicle for several hours) no leak is evident until well after the tranny cools. After inspecting the tranny, I am perplexed. This vehicle does not have a tranny cooler and is not used to tow. All the fluid levels are correct and filled to proper capacity.

Find and correct the leak. The thing is probably running very hot due to low fluid.
