Charade

I have a 1992 Daihatsu Charade, a little 3 cylinder Japanese car. My temperature gauge inside the car seems to run a little high to me. The car does not overheat, but the gauge comes very close to the danger zone sometimes. When I am sitting still at a traffic light, I can watch the gauge start moving up. It happens quite regularly, and the fan comes on a lot. When I get out of the car, there will be a burnt smell sometimes. My father-in-law said the thermostat may be sticking. Please respond and let me know some possible solutions.

Change the thermostat and flush out the coolant. Start there and let us know what you find.

I changed out the thermostat and drained and replaced the coolant. It seems to be helping. The gauge doesn't go quite as high, plus the fan does not come on as much when the car is sitting still idling.

Thanks!
