Question rainy day misfire

I am writing on behalf of my son. He drives a 1989 chevy cavalier, 4 door RS. When it rains or when the humidity is high, his car misfires. The severity of this ranges from starts, shudders, misfires, stalls...to mild misfire and hesitation...depending on the degree of water in the air/on the ground. Our mechanic has been unable to find a problem, because invariably the car stops misbehaving when we take it in to be checked. He runs a midgrade gasoline, 10W-30 oil, all gaskets have all been replaced, a diagnostic run (inconclusive), his belts/hoses replaced and a tune-up done. Any ideas or suggestions?

thx,
Kaj.

This is usually indicative of bad ignition wires. Change them.
