Talking Gas Tank Strap Replacement - Jeep Wrangler

Hi everyone!

This is an AWESOME site!!! I'm new here. I found this site by looking through search engines. The wife and I are building a house, and we're stoked! I told her I'd try to find more information on the web about the matter and BAM!!!

Well, my first question here is something that I'd like to try and do this weekend. I bought some new gas tank straps for my 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ.

Here's the specs on it:

Engine: 258 cid (4.2L Inline 6)
Tranny: AX15 Manual
Trans. Case: NP231J

The straps that go over the top of the tank broke. Do you know if I would have to drop the whole skid plate, including the tank, to change them out for the new ones I have?

TIA!

More than likely. You have to get the old straps out before you can install the new ones .

The bolts are likely rusty, so a worthy thing to do would be to liberally spray them the night before with WD40 so they will come loose easier.

Unhappy I was afraid of that...

That's a bummer. Looks like I need to go to my uncles house (ASE guy, like yourself) and borrow his big jack. My jeep is slightly lifted, and I live in an apartment complex right now.

Thanks man!!!
