Windshield Glass Chips

What's the deal on windshield chip repairs? Can it be done by a handy craftsman type person or must it be done at auto glass shops?

I have a chip that's smaller than the diameter of a pea. It doesn't have any cracks radiating from it. Also, have some almost sand grain sized chips.

I'm very familiar with working with plastic resins. Are the materials & information available to the DIYer?

Your advice will be appreciated.

Best regards, Dick

Yes and no.

My friend put clear nail polish on his crack on his 1991 Shadown in 1992 and it hasn't spread since.

Most glass shops can easily handle this. In fact, many insurance companies happily cover this in lieu of windshield repair later on!
