87 Caprice Steering Column

The steering wheel in my 87 Caprice "wobbles". I pulled the
wheel to investigate, while doing so several "B.B. sized" ball
bearings fell from under column. I found 1 intact working bearing assembly under turn signal cam, it seems there is a second bearing assembly farther down in column, I believe this is where problem is. How do I get to this bearing assembly ?

This can be a real bear to do without the knowledge, experience and some special tools. I suggest you take the column out and have it professionally serviced by someone experienced or have someone go through it.

Both bearing need replacement and the column has to come virtually apart completely to get at the rest. Not a fun job.

GM tilt columns of this vintage can be hard to work with. Not for the weak of heart .
