87 Caprice steering column replacement

I am going to be removing the damaged steering column & replacing it with one from a "junk yard". Can anyone briefly describe procedure or tell me of possible problems I may encounter?

Get yourself a Haynes or Chilton manual or have a look at autolibrary.org below.

I have said this many times--those manuals are junk--they just don't cover alot of items. I have a whole stack of these for various cars I have owned. I quit buying them--factory service manual or nothing! Case in point--just put pitman arm and idler arm in my '98 gmc this weekend--buddy has the chilton book for this--it did not cover removal or installation of these items or the steering box, just the tie rod ends! For anyone who wants to tackle this job on a 4x4 fullsize GM--please contact me--you may be better off paying someone to do it!!

You know I agree with you on the OEM book, Redneck .

However, there is a great reluctance by many folks to buy proper and correct information.

Remember, you would look at your doctor funny if he used a generic medical manual to diagnose you.

In turn, your car is no different !
