1983 Nissan Pulsar retractable headlamps won't

I have a 1983 Nissan Pulsar, 5 speed, 1500 cc engine. Nearly mint condition. The battery went dead a few weeks ago. When I first tried to start it the headlamps popped up, but when I replaced the battery, they would not go back down. I've checked fuses and looked for disconnected wires but no luck. Is there something else I can check? Am I looking at replacing the motors? The manual I have does not even address the mechanism. Thanks for any help!

Possible stuck relays or bad motors. Bring power to them from the battery and see if they cycle up and down properly or not.

Hidden headlamps on an old Japanese car=not worth 50 cent on a good day .
