Slipping transmission?

Slipping transmission?

Lately my car has been lacking power. This happens particularly in the first 10-15 minutes, and then improves considerably. I hit the gas and get a whining, whirring sound and the power isn't forthcoming. Is this a slipping tranny? Can it be repaired, or is it best to replace it? How much would repair/replacement cost?

What make/model car? Is the fluid up to the proper level and when was last time it was serviced (fluid & filter change)?

The vehicle is a '94 Dodge Caravan with the 2.5L engine. I recently replaced the filter and fluid because of this problem, and the fluid levels have been where they should be.

If the engine picks up (speeds up in RPM) and the tranny doesn't respond appropriately (smooth crisp shifts) or it "falls out of gear".
it likely has internal failure in the tranny, yes.

Rebuild time .
