Dealer pulling my leg?

I have a 2000 626 with 17,000 mostly city miles.

The car began leaking oil a couple of days ago. I took to dealer today and they said the oil was leaking at the filter.

It had been about 6K since the last filter change, and it was done at the dealer. 1 week after thatm the filter leaked oil and they tightened the filter, no problems until this week.

Service guy said it was leaking due to age. Heck it was only 6 months. I think there was something wrong with the filter gasket.

Waddya think?

Defective gasket, was overtightened the last time, etc, etc, etc.

Just keep an eye on it. If it no longer leaks, it was human error or a bad filter...an anamoly either way.

one other possibility is that the gasket from the old filter stuck to the bottom of the engine when they last did an oil change, now you will have an oil filter and 2 gaskets, which is not good. This happened to my brothers 91 escort, and he wound up losing his engine over it.

BTW, in my never-to-be-humble opinion 6k of city driving is WAY too far between oil changes.

a constant debate eh tow guy? I just turned 174 k on the 5.0 stang today and have changed it only 6 times or so in the last 75 k miles, tell that to the engine though!! Most people never plan on driving a car till it quits anyway, so in the long run, it may not matter.

Lol.

Jeremy, it depends. I can tell you all six of my cars have spotless insides of the engines and won't need any internal repairs for a long time, if ever .

I don't junk cars, it's against my grain .

I agree with Tow Guy, 3k/3 months for severe duty.
