1999 subaru outback legacy

wife said air conditioner not working in her outback.checked 10 and 20 amp fuses and 4 air cond relays,all ok.ck'd connector on compress and ck'd ok....when pushing in ac button inside car green light comes on but not the compressor.hope it is something simple and not the compressor.any help would be greatly appreicated....Dano

Jump out the wires on the compressor, see if it turns on. Check for power at the plug of the compressor.

Barring that, I would have the dealer handle it. 1999 vehicle should be covered by the dealer's warranty in most cases for free.

thanks joe,will try that.it's a 1999 with 51,000 original miles.my car is one year old and has 33,500 miles.we do alot of driving.i think the subaru warranty is 3 yrs 36,000 miles. thanks again and i will report back,Dano

How did you check the compressor? If you were low on freon, you may have to bypass the pressure switch to get the compressor to kick in. I would suggest you leave this to the professional.

JOE,SORRY I DID NOT GET BACK SOONER.WAS AWAY ON BUSINESS.I JUMPED OUT THE PRESSURE SWITCH AND THE COMPRESSOR CAME ON.BROUGHT CAR TO WORK AND FRIEND CHECKED FOR LEAKS WITH LIGHT BUT I GUESS THEY DID NOT USE DYE ON THIS MODEL.HE HOOKES UP HIS A/C GAGES AND THERE WAS NO FREON IN SYSTEM.HE WILL TAKE CAR HOME AND SERVICE WITH FREON AND DYE AND CK FOR LEAKS THIS WEDNESDAY.THANKS FOR THE HELP AND I WILL REPORT BACK WITH WHAT HE FINDS.DAN

Good job. Make sure any and all leaks are found before adding new refrigerant or it is for naught.

Joe,Just a heads up on my air conditioner problem..my friend replaced all seals on all fittings and evacuated and reserviced and added some dye and found a pinhole leak coming from condenser.I checked paperwork at home and bought extended warrenty when we leased car back in 1999.all work will be covered under warrenty .Thanks Dan
