95 Nissan Maxima CV axle/boot repair

How difficult is it to replace the CV axle and boot? I have to say, my husband is not handy, though he would like to think so. Anyway, we can get the part from Autozone, but the guy at Autozone made it out like this was very difficult to do yourself... Is there a special tool or something that you have to have? It 's a 95 Maxima, front wheel drive, non-locking joints, anti-lock brakes, the driver's side. Also, we were told that we may as well replace them both at the same time, but what would be the reason there, if the other is not clicking? Thanks for the input.

If you are not handy, it may be more frustrating and daunting to repair it than to have it done. You should change the whole axle, not just the joint.

Have a look in the autolibrary.org link I have below in my signature file. That will give you an idea of whether you want to do it or have it done.
