93 ford aerostar

My ford aerostar needs new upper control arm bushings, it has developed a clunck under certain conditions and after a few hours of poking around in the wheel well i found the source of the noise. I have priced a complete assembly at about $600, or new bushings at about $15. If the bushings are gone will the assembly be damaged in anyway and is it a repair a car owner can do himself. I realize an alignment will be necessary after the bushings are replaced. If i can do it myself can anyone offer any tips on the best method.

Thanks, Martin

Check autolibrary for the R&R procedure below. A press may be required to press out the old bushings and press in the new.

In such case, take out the control arms and take them and the new bushings to any parts store with a machine shop and they will press them out for you and press in the new ones.
