Battery light on

The battery light is on in my Acura Vigor GS. I took it to a mechanic and attached the battery to a handheld device and said that the results indicated a bad alternator. I checked the trouble code in the computer and the check engine light gave me the code for the crankshaft position sensor.
Which is bad?

The check engine light is for emissions. The battery light is for the charging system.

Two separate systems and problems. If the battery is more than four years old, pitch it when changing the alternator.
