wheel alignment or wheel balance?

My 1997 Ford Explorer, 72.5K, noticeably shakes a bit between 60 - 65 mph. What does it need? wheel alignment or balance? Thanks.

Is it the front end that's shaking or the steering wheel? If it's the wheel I'd say to try a spin balance your tires first. And if that dosen't take care of it then get your alignment checked, some shops will check it free.

what does the shake feel like?

steering wheel shake usually indicates front balance problem

floor or seat shake usually indicates rear balance problem

other posibilities include bad u-joint or out of balance driveshaft

alignment issues rarely cause shake.
