89 Ciera stalling at stops
My mother's 89 Olds Ciera runs fine, idles fine. The problem is after driving at a steady speed and then having to slow down/stop. The engine stalls. Engine will immediately restart but dies when the car is shifted from park/neutral to any gear. Eventually, engine will remain running when shifted into gear. Could it be throttle control on transmission? or catalytic converter?
Thanks for any help.

Likely a stuck torque converter clutch solenoid.
Disconnect the square plug on the top of the tranny. If the problem goes away, bad TCC solenoid.
The side cover of the trans has to come off to replace it. No real "harm" done, but should be changed in the future.
