no oil Pressure one day, plenty the next

I have a 91 ford f-150 with a 351, yesterday a ticking sound came from the engine and I noticed very low oil pressure. Today after towing the truck I decided to restart the engine figuring the damage is done. But today there is no noise and plenty of oil pressure. Is this a sign of trash in the ports or do I need to plan on a new oil pump?

How do you know there is "plenty" of oil pressure?

Has it been checked with a hand held gauge to verify it's within spec or not?

First step.

oil pressure

I had somewhat of the same problem on my 89 F-250 with a 351 engine. Found out that the oil filter was bad.The inside exploded and cut off the flow of oil.
