Grape to Vinegar Smell

I have a Ford Explorer and several weeks ago bought a few cases of grapes to make wine. I had placed plastic in the back of the truck, but wasn't as careful as I should have been. The grapes were on the over ripe and wet side and some of the liquid made its way to the rug and under the plastic floor trim which goes over the carpet.

I removed the trim and lifted the plastic clips that hold down the carpet. I was able to get the plastic trim clean and it no longer smells. I was able to clean the metal under the rug and that no longer smells. However, the edges of the rug still smell. I have tried amonia as well as soap and water and rug cleaners for pets as well as standard car rug cleaners. I have also sprinkled baking soda - still that vinegary smell. I also have not reinstalled the molding or the plastic clips hoping that the air will help to get rid of the smell. No luck.

Anyone have a suggestion other than removing and replacing the carpet??

Thanks,
JackL

Have the rug professionally steam cleaned. That should get the smell out.
