1997 Saturn SL2

I have a 1997 Saturn SL2 with Twin Cam 4 and automatic transmission. The speedometer refuses to operate for the first 8-10 miles of a trip in the morning, slowly begins to operate, then no further issues the balance of the day. I have replaced the Speed Sensor (hall effect) on the transmission cover, but the probelm still exists. How do I fix this? Do I need to have the codes analyzed from the onbopard pc, or is this an issue behind the instrument cluster?

Start with www.alldata.com and see if there are known recalls or bulletins pertaining to this issue.

Could be a cluster issue.
