Have a F150 2WD with 98K miles. The rear end clunks when I shift to reverse and drive. The universals are good. I've never changed or checked the fluid. Could low fluid cause the problem?

No low fluid will not cause clunking noise in rear end. But --if rear end was run low on fluid it can cause excess wear to bearing, gears and splines in diff. Soun let you may need to pull rear cover for inspection. ---Good Luck-----Dave----
