Remote Trunk Release

I have a 97 Calvalier LS with remote trunk release. I want to add a release button in the car. I have found the wire under the dash. I am under the impression that I need to install a diode infront of where I splice in to prevent the back flow of voltage from damaging the electornics. Is this correct? Approxiametly how much current does the remote trunk release draw.

Thanks

It's probably not worth it to add an electric release. A lot of wiring gazorch.

Best bet is to find the whole shooting match out of a wreck if it was so equipped on a Cavalier of that vintage.
