Angry No Headlights, Dash light, or Tail lights 1979 Caprice

My son has a 1979 Caprice.
On his way home from work, his lights went out.
Engine still runs, he has turn signals, and hazzard lights.
I told him to replace the headlight switch, that did not help.
What else do I need to check?
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Greg

Have you checked all the fuses and breakers?

Next logical place. Barring that, it sounds like a short or missing ground. Hit your local library for a wiring diagram in an old Chilton manual and check your wiring closely.

These are very reliable old horses, excepting for the soft cams in the Chevy V8's of this vintage .

My grandfather had one...it ran flawlessly for 13 years, even after being wrecked 4 times. Not bad for a car he paid 1000 bucks for in 1983 and I sold for him in 1996 for $300 (with a knocking engine....I sold it to a guy for parts).

I did a ton of work on that car and learned a ton in the process. The advantage to this car was that everything is available on the whim, and everything is cheap for it .

Back in '91, I made my grandfather a bet when it wouldn't run that if I couldn't fix it for under a 100 bucks, I would buy the car from him. I replaced the timing chain, water pump, fuel pump, tuned it up and got it running for under 100 bucks. It fired up on the first try of turning the key .

It ran another 5 years after that. LOL.
