I have a 1992 Daihatsu Charade 3 cylinder vehicle. For the past several months, when the ignition is started, there will be a high pitched squeal coming from the engine. Sometimes it may squeal for only a few seconds, and other times it seems as though it will not stop. It does not squeal every single time the car is started, and you never know when it will squeal. It is starting to occur more often now. It is very embarassing to crank your car and everyone looking at you while it is squealing. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction on what to look for.

It doesn't squeal every time because it does it when it is humid outdoors ,even when it is not raining.

I agree with Davo. When was the last time it saw belts?
