Repair

I have an ignition switch that i can not turn off. Any help would be appreciated.

A collosal start would be the type of vehicle, year, model, etc. Read the posting guidelines at the top of the page of this forum and post back the required information.

Which switch are you referring to? The electrical one, the key/lock or both if they are all one piece? (depends on the model).

Now you dig why we need model specifics?

Question Cavalier

I have a 1990 Cavalier that the key switch is locked in the forward position and i can not get it to return to the off position.

Make sure the vehicle is in park if it's an automatic. Move the shifter around and make sure the button clicks out...the key cannot be released unless it is.

If it's a stick shift, make sure it's in reverse or whatever gear it needs to be to come out...(each car differs, check the owner's manual).

Barring that, stuck ignition lock cylinder and it must be replaced. See autolibrary.org in my signature file below.
