Cluch is Free and Key is not Coming Out

Hi,
I was fixing some Broken Cover around the gear rod of my KIA Sportage 98 Model( Atomatic Transmission) .
By mistake I even opened the Plastic handle on the gear shaft.

When I am fitting it back it is not fitting easily (as it was before)

The big problem is Cluch is loose (It seems it not working)
and KEY IS NOT COMING OUT. I am keeping the key in and leaving the Car.

Please help me.

Thanks,
Venkat

Sounds like the linkage is off. If the linkage is not in alignment, the key cannot be removed.

For instance, the shifter must be in reverse on my 1979 Trans Am in order for the ignition lock to move to the off position to release the key.

Recheck your work with what you did on the linkage.
