68 Mustang Oil Pressure

I was going to check the oil pressure in my son's 68 Mustang (289 V8) with a gage since the one on the dash seems to be bad. Although we have the complete Ford shop manual, it does not say what the normal and max. pressures should be. Does anybody know? Thanks

It would help to know how many miles are on the engine. But rule of thumb 20-30lbs at idle and 40-80lbs sometimes higher on a good rebuild with a high pressure pump. They make high pressure and high volume. Unsure of what you have.

STOP . Get the manual. The min and max pressures won't tell you much. You must see if it's within range of the spec in the service manual.

For instance, my 79 Pontiac manual is very specific about the pressure at what RPM. Use a reliable hand held gauge to check the oil pressure. Any parts store can rent you one.
