Differential problems-Chev.astro van

I have a whinning noise comming from my right rear wheel. It gets louder as I accelerate, but otherwise runs fine. It's a '97 with 115,000 miles.Could it be a bearing,or the axel,or possibly the ring & pinion gears. How hard is it to replace? What about a junkyard rear end?

It's probably an axle bearing if you're absolutely sure the noise is coming from the right rear wheel.

The axle bearing & seal are actually very easy to replace. The job requires only common hand tools & the ability to follow directions.

Upon disassembly, you may find a groove worn in to the axle shaft. Use an offset bearing from Green Ball Bearing if your axle is grooved. Otherwise use the standard replacement bearing & seal from GM or any good aftermarket supplier.

Copy & Paste the URL below for axle bearing replacement instructions.
