88 hyun excel gl got two used engines both head gaskets
blew after inslalling starting the engine up.what makes the head gasket
go,if the engine has been sitting so long with oil in it

I agree. Those cars are collosal junk, and an 88 Excel isn't worth registration fees at this point.
A rebuilt engine is more than the car is worth. Pitch it and spend your dollars on something more reliable for the SAME money you'll spend to putz on this one.

Agreed. Not to knock your car but I've known only 2 people with older Hyundais(sp?) and both of them were constantly breaking down. One of the guys had something tear loose in the engine compartment (maybe the fan/water pump but I dunno) and ruined the radiator. He junked it, lol!
If you like older cars like that (like me, b/c they're cheap!) look at older American, namely Chevy. Cavaliers are tough, I had an 86 with over 200K on the same 4banger and that car is STILL running (although it's had a cracked exhaust manifold and sounds like a whoopie cushion).
